STUDY TO DETERMINE REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH FACILITIES IN A POST-THERMONUCLEAR ATTACK ENVIRONMENT.

Abstract

The study determined requirements for adequate public health facilities and operations (water, sewage and solid waste) in a post-thermonuclear attack environment. Four cities were surveyed to evaluate solid waste disposal techniques and to determine simple types of equipment available for emergency treatment of water and sewage. A questionnaire was subsequently developed to ascertain the knowledge level and preparedness of solid waste treatment personnel to cope with disaster conditions. This questionnaire and a similar one dealing with water and sewage treatment operations (developed under a previous contract) were then administered to the four cities. Findings from both questionnaires are summarized and evaluated. (Author)
