VORTAC ERROR ANALYSIS FOR HELICOPTER NAVIGATION; NEW YORK CITY AREA.

Abstract

A study of the precision and coverage provided by the present VORTAC system in the low altitude helicopter environment of metropolitan New York is reported. Pertinent radio propagation theory and navigation error theory are applied in estimating performance and comparing the DME/DME and DME/VOR systems with respect to area coverage and specific helicopter IFR route coverage.
