THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF THE SHOCK WAVE. PART II. MULTICOMPONENT MIXTURES.

Abstract

The diffusional mass flux of each component of a mixture, is explicitly expressed by resorting to a simplified acceptable form of the binary diffusion coefficient. Following the entropic way, the simple Kohler-Dyakov formula is synthetically extended from binary to multicomponent mixtures. The result is that the shock thickness is amplified by the diffusional effects in a multicomponent mixture, but never more so than in the binary mixture composed by the only lightest and heaviest gases. Numerical examples on rare gases are worked out. (Author)
