ON THE APPLICATION OF SHOCK TUBES FOR INVESTIGATION OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS,

Abstract

An investigation was made of the motion of shock waves in inert (Ar, N2) and reacting gases (97% Ar + 3% (11/12 O2 + 1/12 C7H16) in a shock tube. It is experimentally shown that real flow of nonreacting gas in shock tube strongly differs from that obtained from theory. Experiments with reacting mixtures showed that investigation of kinetics of exothermic reactions in shock tubes is complicated by disturbance of uniformity of flow of gas and deviation of parameters of flow from values calculated theoretically. Delays of ignition of this mixture in region of temperatures 1500-2400K and pressures 3-20 atm are determined. (Author)
