INVESTIGATION OF AN ELECTRODELESS RING DISCHARGE IN ARGON AND IN AIR,

Abstract

The work describes electrodeless ring discharges in argon and in air obtained in a cylindrical chamber with diameter of 60 mm at a frequency of 2 Mc. There are obtained stable discharges in the range of pressures of 0.4 mm Hg-1 atm in a closed pipe without hydrodynamic stabilization. There are given values of power absorbed by the discharge. For a stabilized discharge in argon at atmospheric pressure there is measured the power absorbed by the discharge and power dissipated on the walls of the chamber at three values of flow rate of gas. There is performed an appraisal of the efficiency of heating of gas in the electrodeless discharge. For certain regimes of a stabilized discharge in argon at atmospheric pressure, the maximum temperature in the discharge and concentration of electrons are measured by the spectral method. (Author)
