LIGHT SENSITIVITY OF POLYVINYLCINNAMATE AND ITS NITRODERIVATIVES,

Abstract

Polyvinylcinnamate and its o -, m - and p - nitroderivatives were synthesized and investigated with respect to their behavior towards ultraviolet light. The solubility, thermomechanical properties and infrared and ultraviolet spectra of the compounds were studied. They are capable of photochemical structuration on irradiation with ultraviolet light, forming the following series with respect to photosensitivity: polyvinylcinnamate <polyvinyl-o-NO2-cinnamate <polyvinyl-m-NO2-cinnamate<polyvinyl-p-NO2-cinnamate.
