A THEORY OF THE MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SPHERULITES.

Abstract

The mechanical properties of spherulites are calculated from the mechanical properties of the constituent structure which is assumed to be composed of crystalline lamella with transverse isotropy interspersed with isotropic amorphous regions. Using continuum elasticity theory, the mechanical properties of a polymer consisting of an aggregate of such spherulites is calculated from the elastic constants of the crystalline and amorphous regions.
