CIRCULAR ERROR PROBABILITY OF A QUANTITY AFFECTED BY A BIAS

Abstract

A procedure for determining the radius of the 39.35, 50 and 90 per cent probability circles for a biased distribution is presented. Both circular and elliptical normal bivariate distributions are considered. The elliptical distribution is replaced by an equivalent circular distribution and an approximate radius obtained, using the circular distribution procedure. Tables giving an indication of the error resulting from this displacement are included.
