PERCHLORIC ACID FLAMES: PART VI. ETHANE-RICH FLAMES.
Abstract
Burning velocities, temperatures and burnt gas compositions were measured for ethane-perchloric acid premixed flames containing from 2 to 17 times as much ethane as is required for a stoichiometric misture. Soot formation was observed but only with a limited range of mixture ratios. When the amount of ethane exceeds three to four moles per mole of acid, the excess ethane does not react but functions as a diluent. The observed products are discussed and a mechanism is proposed that is basically similar to that suggested previously for methane-rich flames. The general properties of fuel-rich perchloric acid flames are discussed. (Author)
