MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ORIENTED FIBERGLASS UNDER TENSION,

Abstract

A number of investigations were carried out in order to compare the values computed theoretically for the mechanical characteristics with experimental results. (a) The mechanical characteristics of the initial components, fiberglass No. 10, epoxyphenol and epoxyphenolfurfurol binders were determined by experimental means; (b) The mechanical characteristics of singly-directed glass-plastics with the mentioned binders were determined experimentally and compared with the theoretical values computed by two methods; (c) The mechanical characteristics were determined experimentally for orthotropic glass-plastics using the same binders with 1:1 to 6:1 ratios of mutually perpendicular layers, and were compared with those computed theoretically by the method of elementary addition of the properties of the initial components. The mechanical characteristics of the glass filler, binders and oriented glass-plastics were determined.
