MEASUREMENT OF THE TOTAL STRUCTURAL MOBILITY MATRIX.

Abstract

The results of an attempt to measure the total mobility matrix describing a point on a structure, including all translational and rotational effects, are presented. The results showed that the technique employed was extremely sensitive to small errors in the experimental data and that either greatly increased precision must be obtained in the experimental data or that the problem must be reformulated to avoid the effects of error propagation. An analysis of error propagation provided better understanding of the problem and suggested how it should be reformulated. The work that is continuing along this new avenue using modified experimental procedures is described. (Author)
