RELATIONS AMONG MACHINERY WEIGHT, THERMAL EFFICIENCY AND ENDURANCE OF VESSELS.

Abstract

A generalized relationship between machinery specific weight and vessel endurance is derived, applicable to any type of vessel and any machinery plant. Several typical fast displacement and captured-air-bubble vessel and machinery examples are selected, and the effect on vessel endurance of varying engine thermal efficiency, with concomitant variation in machinery weight, is illustrated.
