PHOTOELASTIC MODELING TECHNIQUES FOR SEISMIC WAVE PROPAGATION.
Abstract
The mechanical and optical properties of gelatins are employed for modeling of acoustical wave propagation phenomena in various media. The functioning of experimental active seismic systems for communications, surveillance, and prospecting is demonstrated by visual stroboscopic display of elastic and plastic waves in gelatin models for various types of soil. Applications of these modeling techniques to design, construction, and deployment of acoustical transmitters and receivers are given. (Author)
