THE SEARCH PROBLEM, AN EXPOSITION.

Abstract

The problem of improving, and if possible optimizing, the scan pattern of a radar that is being used to locate a target whose position has a known probability distribution has been studied by B. O. Koopman and O. V. Staroverov. This report is a survey and exposition of their results and associated topics. No previous knowledge of mathematics more advanced than elementary calculus is needed.
