VISUAL DISPLAY OF COMPLEX INFORMATION,

Abstract

The design of a good display is inseparable from the use to which it will be put. While it is desirable in a single presentation to maximize all possible functions, it is unlikely that a display can at once be best for quick perception and high accuracy; best for monitoring and tracking; best for precision measurement and tactical evaluation. It is difficult to apply the criterion of use to the problem of display design because a thorough-going job analysis of the role of displays in information systems has not yet been made.
