STUDIES OF IN-SHELTER MANAGEMENT GUIDANCE MATERIALS

Abstract

The report describes two small scale research efforts dealing with the subject of management guidance materials for use in-shelter. The first effort culiminated in a prototype abbreviated guidance aid designed for the small (under 50 person) shelter. This version tried to avoid some of the shortcomings of previous management guidance documents, such as large size or inflexibility of use. The second section of this report is based on a review of the relatively meager literature on the preparation of written materials for emergency use. It discusses the major 'graphic art' factors that should be considered in developing emergency guidance materials and provides recommendations for guidance preparation where appropriate.
