THE SYNTHESIS OF SPECIAL FLUORINE-CONTAINING MONOMERS

Abstract

Further work on the syntheses of fluorine containing olefins and diolefins is reported. Studies directed toward syntheses of derivatives of perfluorobicyclobutyl and perfluorobicyclobutenyl were initiated. Of particular interest is the preparation of 2,2'-diiodo-per-fluorobicyclobutenyl by photolysis of 1,2-diiodotetrafluoro cyclobutene. Starting from 1,2- dichlorohexafluoro cyclopentene, other dihalo- and mixed dihalohexafluorocyclopentenes were prepared, and from these were prepared the monoethoxy derivatives, such as 1-iodo-2-ethoxyhexafluoro cyclopentene.
