SPECTROMETER FOR ATMOSPHERIC IONS IN THEIR UPPERMOST RANGE OF MOBILITY

Abstract

As a continuation of Phase I (AD-638 761) of the final report, Phase II presents supplements for the theoretical considerations on the measurement of mobility spectra of atmospheric ions in the upper troposphere, stratosphere, and mesosphere. A preliminary evaluation of three free-air measurements in the height range from 5 to 40 km is discussed. The design of a new model (C) of the modified GERDIEN chamber for the height range from 40 to 80 km is described, applying the ac operation mode developed by the authors.
