ELECTROMAGNETIC PROPERTIES OF DRIFTED SEMICONDUCTOR PLASMAS. PART I. NORMAL MODES IN THE INFINITE MEDIUM.

Abstract

The report deals with bulk phenomena in semiconductor materials with drifting majority carriers. Assuming wave solutions, the permittivity tensor is derived for this type of electromagnetic medium. The general wave equation is solved for the elementary modes which consist of a complete set of TE and TM modes. The TM modes are separated in irrotational carrier waves or space charge waves and solenoidal electromagnetic waves. The appropriate dispersion relations and state vectors are presented for all the elementary modes together with a discussion of their properties. (Author)
