MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THICK-PLATE TI-6AL-4V ALLOY,

Abstract

Three grades of Ti-6Al-4V, representing variations in oxygen level and mill processing, were evaluated on the basis of strength, toughness, stress corrosion, and fatigue. The results indicate that the Ti-6Al-4V alloy is a strong candidate for pressure hull applications, provided that a processing schedule can be developed which gives a tough, weldable alloy at a 110/115 yield-strength level.
