THE SUBCAVITATING HYDROFOIL (HYSTAD) PROGRAM.

Abstract

The report summarizes the activities of a design definition phase (Phase I) of a program to design, fabricate and evaluate a set of HYSTAD-equipped, subcavitating, fully-submerged hydrofoils on the U. S. Navy's high speed hydrofoil research craft, FRESH-1. HYSTAD identifies a mechanical HYdrofoil STAbilization Device for providing stability to fully submerged hydrofoil systems in a highly reliable and nonelectronic manner. The results of analytical and design studies are presented along with engineering data and a design description. (Author)
