THE SUBCAVITATING HYDROFOIL (HYSTAD) PROGRAM.

Abstract

A series of four digital computer programs was used to facilitate the analysis of longitudinal mode stability of a given hydrofoil craft design. These programs have been modified for use on the BUSHIPS IBM 1620 Digital Computer. Craft physical data are converted into weight, center of gravity, and moment-of-inertia information; coefficients of the linearized equations of motion are generated; and finally the poles and zeroes of the open loop transfer function are produced. An option in one of the programs will provide potentiometer settings for an analog representation, if desired. The programs are identified as: HY1001, A Weight, Center of Gravity, and Inertia Data Computing Program; HY2A01, A Hydrofoil Craft Longitudinal Trim-Load Computing Program; HY2B01, A Hydrofoil Craft Longitudinal (2-DOF) Stability Derivative Computing Program; HY3001, A Program for Computing the Longitudinal Open Loop Transfer Function (2-DOF) of a Hydrofoil Craft.
