SOME EXPERIMENTS ON THE CURE OF AN UNSATURATED POLYESTER SYSTEM. PART II. MEASUREMENT OF VOLUME RESISTIVITY, BARCOL HARDNESS AND ACETONE EXTRACTION IN THE ADVANCED STAGES OF THE CURING REACTION.
Abstract
Volume resistivity, Barcol hardness and acetone extraction measurements were made on cost polyester specimens in the advanced stages of the curing reaction. The results show that the acetone extraction technique is the most sensitive for assessing the extent of cure. Measurement of volume resistivity changes during the curing reaction with continuous and with intermittent voltages gave different results. When glass cloth was used as a filler the composite had a resistivity lower than that of the cast resin. An analysis of the results together with other data reported in the literature illustrates the difficulties in correlating the results for extent of cure as measured by volume resistivity, Barcol hardness and acetone extract.
