TRANSIENT ELASTIC WAVES IN INFINITE ANISOTROPIC PLATES: THE NEAR FIELD.
Abstract
For certain classes of materials and orientations of the axes of symmetry, the equations of motion of alinear, anisotropic, elastic solid admit of plane-strain solutions. A problem is considered in which such motions are generated, namely, the application of an impulsive, normal, line load, parallel to one of the crystallographic axes, on one face of an infinite plate. It is found that two basic situations arise, depending on whether certain branch points are complex, or real and pure imaginary, and in the former case the solution on the epicentral axis is obtained. This solution is analyzed numerically for several anisotropic media, and isotropic media for comparison purposes. (Author)
