HYDRODYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE AN/SSQ-41 SONOBUOY HYDROPHONE SUSPENSION SYSTEM.

Abstract

The response of the AN/SSQ-41 line hydrophone suspension to surface wave-induced and to flow-induced motions is reported, and the effects are shown to cause spurious audio sonobuoy signals. A wave-forced response analysis and the results of a sea trial verification are presented. Geometry of the suspension system is defined for horizontal flows to 1.5 knots, and recommendations are made for improved operational design. (Author)
