THE DIFFERENTIATOR CIRCUIT.

Abstract

The modified equipment described in this report includes Aminco Thermo-Grav Equipment. The original system was designed to record a primary curve of weight = f(t), where t can be either temperature or time. This system includes a potentiometric type x-y recorder for plotting the relationship between an independent and a dependent variable. The primary thermograms obtained up to the present from this system consisted of differential weight as a function of temperature. An additional system was developed to provide curves of the derivative of primary thermograms. In the event that the curves closely approximated the rate of changes of the primary curve, the amplitude of the derivative could be used to determine maximum and minimum points of inflection and also other reaction kinetic indices of the primary thermogram. These data are used in the analysis of a chemical process wherein a definite change of weight occurs as a result of a temperature change. Simultaneous recording of the primary thermogram curve and derivative curve, using the temperature as a common abscissa, solicitates a comparison of the two curves. (Author)
