WEATHER INFORMATION REMOTING AND DISPLAY SYSTEM.

Abstract

The object of the program was to design, develop, fabricate, test and check out a complete Weather Information Remoting and Display System (WIRDS) which will provide the capability of presenting current weather information in a form suitable for an air traffic controller to direct aircraft around hazardous weather phenomena. An experimental system was developed and placed in operation. This system provides a means for compiling data at the weather forecasting site from either a weather radar or other data sources, transferring this information to remote locations via a narrow bandwidth communication facility and converting it to a format suitable for insertion onto the Air Traffic Controller's radar display (RBDE-5).
