IMPROVED ATC TRANSPONDER ANTENNA PERFORMANCE.

Abstract

The document describes the results of a study to determine the best way to improve the performance of the ATC transponder antenna. The background of the problem is presented and the advantages and disadvantages of some of the many solutions, past and present, are discussed. A strong recommendation is made for a combined transponder/antenna system approach as the solution to the problem. The details of the proposed approach are presented in the form of an engineering requirement suitable for development effort. (Author)
