HYDROMECHANIC DESIGN OF A PROPOSED NEKTON SAMPLER.

Abstract

The hydromechanic design of a proposed cable-towed nekton sampler is presented. The system consists of a towed body, a double-armored towcable, and suitable handling equipment aboard ship. The towed body contains special transducers for measuring the speed, depth, and water temperature, and houses a closed-circuit television camera for observing the nekton during tow. Design calculations indicate that the body can be towed at a depth of 300 feet at 10 knots with 650 feet of 0.50-inch-diameter towcable in the water. (Author)
