LOW MAGNETIC SATURATION GARNETS.
Abstract
Nine single crystal runs consisting of YCaVIG, BiCaVIG and BiCaV(A1)IG were prepared and evaluated. The discrepancy in the magnetization versus composition between single and polycrystalline BiCaVIG appears to be resolved with the identification of Pb impurity in the single crystals. Three batches of (Bi1.0-x Y x )1.6Ca1.4V0.7Fe4.3O12 with x values of 0.15, 0.25, and 0.35 were prepared and all possessed lattice constants less than 12.540A. Two batches of Y1.6Ca2.4V0.7Al w Fe4.3-wO12 with w = 0.4 and 0.6 were made to determine the composition for the magnetic compensation point. The compensation point was found to occur at approximately w = 0.425. Composition G476, Bi0.4Ca2.6V1.3Al0.1Fe3.6O12 was remixed possessed a linewidth of 80 oersteds and a 4(pi)Ms of 530 gauss. The linewidth and magnetization as a function of temperature were found to be similar as expected for (Bi0.5Y0.5)0.4Ca2.6V1.3Fe3.7O12 and BiCaVIG y = 1.3. The magnetization of (Y0.5Gd0.5)0.6Ca2.4V1.2Fe3.8O12 varied approximately 1.65 gauss/deg. C from -100C to +200C.
