DESIGN TECHNIQUES FOR A FACSIMILE SCANNER.
Abstract
Thin film solid state material process techniques developed towards permitting design of advanced image transducers with electronic readout for facsimile applications. Production of large area uniform photoconductors and transparent conductor of main consideration. Characteristics of thin film photoconductors have been greatly improved with uniformity of 99% over large (4 X 4 inches) deposition area attained. Transparent conductor produced over 1 X 1 inch areas by pyrolytic techniques of rare earth materials resulted in transparency better than 90%. Performance characteristics indicated to be superior to any known commercially available equivalents. Techniques for reading a high resolution image matrix array by electronic commutation initiated. A thin film solid state switching element analyzed and experimentally evaluated to determine suitability for constructing thin film commutator integrated with matrix array. (Author)
