FINAL SCIENTIFIC REPORT, 1 FEBRUARY 1965-31 JANUARY 1967,

Abstract

This report reviews the work which was aimed at measuring the spectrum of photons that have energies between 30 Kev and 475 Kev emanating from the Crab Nebula. A characteristic spectrum of line gammas was calculated on the basis of heavy-element synthesis in supernovae. A 'gamma ray telescope' was designed, fabricated and flown on balloons to search for this predicted radiation. The telescope is pointed in flight by a servo system. The results of the experiments are described. (Author)
