FLUORINE FREE RADICAL CHEMISTRY.

Abstract

The general objective of the work carried out has been to provide an increased understanding of the reactions which take place when organic compounds are brought into contact with elemental fluorine and to develop suitable methods for utilizing such reactions for the synthesis of highly fluorinated compounds. Free radical intermediates are characteristically produced by reaction of fluorine with organic compounds and the use of fluorine both as a fluorinating reagent and as a free-radical initiator was of interest.
