PART I. RESEARCH ON THE HETEROGENEOUS STRUCTURE OF THE SOLAR ATMOSPHERE: A PROGRESS REPORT, 1964-6. PART II. LAMBDAMETER NO. 2.

Abstract

The Report contains two independant parts. Part I reviews the progresses made by our laboratory and associates during the period 1964-6, in the observation and analysis of the fine structure of the solar atmosphere and its kinematical behavior, eventually in the presence of the magnetic fields of active regions. Most of the work summarized there has been or will shortly be published in scientific periodicals. Part II is a description of the design construction and performance of 'Lambdameter 2', an instrument to measure and record the local fluctuations in wavelength of Fraunhofer lines due to the Doppler and/or Zeeman effect from a photograph of the spectrum.
