DEVELOPMENT OF MAGNESIUM FLAT CELL BATTERY.

Abstract

A second series of five cell stacks was assembled using AZ21X1 magnesium alloy anode plates. The six lots included increased quantities of magnesium bromide and magnesium perchlorate electrolytes, two concentrations of magnesium perchlorate electrolyte and the addition of an organic gum binder in the dry mix in one lot using magnesium perchlorate electrolyte. Initial capacity results (stacks one week old) on this second series are presented on both BA-399 drain and 600 ohms/5-continuous drain tests. Delayed capacity performance on the first series of stacks assembled are given when discharged on the BA-399 drain. The effects of storage time and storage temperature on capacity maintenance and delayed action are given. (Author)
