INVESTIGATION OF THE UTILITY OF LOW SPEED DYNAMIC MODEL TESTS FOR AIRCRAFT STORE LAUNCH RESEARCH,

Abstract

Results of a study to determine the utility of using a low-speed wind tunnel and a statistical approach for aircraft-store separations research are presented. An A-4E aircraft model and a Mark 88 Mod 0 practice bomb, dynamically and geometrically scaled to 10 percent, were used in the test. Multiple exposure photographs of each drop were made and transparent overlay grids were used to read store displacements and pitch angles from the photographs. Smooth trajectory curves were obtained, indicating that a sufficient number of drops were made to obtain a good average. (Author)
