CHANGES IN THE MORPHOLOGICAL COMPOSITION OF BLOOD IN EXPERIMENTAL PLAGUE
Abstract
A method is proposed for taking blood with a graduated pipette and diluting it in test tubes. The method is safe for working with plague infected animals. Following the infection of guinea pigs and white mice with a virulent strain of plague microbe the number of erythrocytes in 1 cu mm of blood increased on all the days following infection. In the first days of plague infection leukocytosis was observed in the animals, sometimes hyperleukocytosis, which on the 4--5th day following infection was replaced by leukopenia. The number of blood platelets increased in the first 3 days after infection and decreased in cases of a prolonged course of infection.
