THE EFFECT OF SPURIOUS COUPLINGS IN RESONANT-CIRCUIT WAVE FILTERS.

Abstract

The multiple, coupled, resonant-circuit wave filter and the effects of spurious couplings among the resonant circuits are analyzed. The relationship between the ladder, constant-k filter network and the coupled resonant circuit filter is shown since the results of the analysis apply to both types of networks. The analysis is carried out for the cases of three and four resonant circuits which are equivalent to five- and six-mesh filters including end couplings. Curves are included to demonstrate that the most significant result of spurious couplings is to introduce points along the frequency axis at which infinite attenuation is obtained. Equations are derived to show how filters may be designed making use of deliberately introduced spurious couplings. It is concluded that the deliberate introduction of spurious couplings may be beneficial in special cases, and can be readily designed into a multiple, coupled, resonant-circuit filter network.
