DEVELOPMENT OF AN AIRCRAFT UPHOLSTERY FABRIC IN A STANDARD CONSTRUCTION (FIRE AND FLAME RESISTANT).
Abstract
Four fabrics from commercial sources and 3 from a contract sample maker were studied as replacements for current nylon ribbed aircraft upholstery cloth for naval airplane seats. The goal was to develop a standard construction upholstery material with improved flame resistance and if possible to reduce the cost per yard. Fabrics of blended fibers, 50% cotton with 50% nylon known as Nyco, did not exhibit the melt drop characteristic of nylon. Neither of the 2 tested Nyco fabrics meet both appearance and service construction goals. (Author)
