PLASMA DENSITY MEASUREMENTS WITH ENERGETIC BEAMS.

Abstract

The report describes a technique for using the collisional dissociation of an energetic molecular ion beam to measure the relative density of a magnetically confined plasma with a three dimensional spatial resolution of 0.005 cc. The ultimate time resolution obtainable with this technique is of the order of 10 to the 7th power/(NI) where N is the density of charged particles per cc. Time resolution of the present measurements were limited to 10 to the 10th power/(NI) by the data collection system. (Author) 9
