STUDY OF SUB-AUDIO GEOMAGNETIC FLUCTUATIONS.

Abstract

Recording of natural fluctuations of the geomagnetic field, in the frequency range .01 to 5 cps at Barrow, Alaska and Huancayo, Peru, and in the 1 to 50 cps range at Shickley, Nebraska and Huancayo, Peru, is described. The schedule of recording periods actually realized between 1 October 1961 and 31 December 1966 is given. The recording system used for the .01 to 5 cps range is described, together with auxiliary instrumentation developed in connection with recording operations in this range, and for playback and reduction of both frequency ranges. Examples of reduced data in the form of Octave-Band and 1/6 Octave-Band plots are presented for the 1 to 50 cps range, also Rayspan spectral analysis charts. Schumann resonance phenomena are clearly displayed in both forms of presentation. (Author)
