THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF COMPRESSED GASES.
Abstract
The purpose of the project is to provide reliable values for the thermodynamic properties of 'key' compressed gaseous systems which can be used as points of reference for a better understanding of the laws of mixing. For several reasons the binary system, methane-tetrafluoromethane, fulfills the requirements of a 'key' system for which a detailed study is justified. The molecules of both methane and tetrafluoromethane are quasi-spherical, possess similar skeletal structures, correspond to a simple interaction model, and can be expected, therefore, to respond reasonably well to a theoretical interpretation of the results. Accurate P-V-T data are available for this system over wide temperature and pressure ranges. Also, both substances are stable of high temperatures thus making possible extended experimental studies. Tables of thermodynamic properties are reported for the complete methane-tetrafluoromethane compressed gaseous system consisting of pure methane, pure tetrafluoromethane, and 25, 50, and 75 mole percent methane + tetrafluoromethane mixtures.
