ANNUAL REPORT 1966-1967.
Abstract
The Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources (ILAR) was founded in 1952 as a result of a conference on animal procurement called by Dr. Paul Weiss, then Chairman of the Division of Biology and Agriculture of the National Research Council. The members of that conference realized the diversity of animal types and the growing number of animals that were required for research and testing in the United States. The Institute was established as a coordinating agency to disseminate information, survey existing and required resources, established standards, promote education, hold conferences, and generally assist in shaping the evolution of the field of laboratory animal resources in the United States so that needed information and quality animal stock would be available to the research scientists.
