USE OF POLYNOMIAL APPROXIMATIONS IN DIGITAL COMPUTERS FOR SOLUTION OF AIR DATA FORMULAE.

Abstract

The object of the work was to investigate the feasibility of using polynomial approximation techniques for the digital solution of air data formulae. Least square methods were used to obtain polynomial approximations to the air data formulae for height, Mach number, indicated airspeed and true airspeed, these approximations being suitable for evaluation using nested multiplication, which is compatible with digital computer techniques. The results indicate that this method of computation could form the basis for a digital air data computer. (Author)
