COARSE FEED SAWING OF RED OAK -- A LIMITED STUDY.

Abstract

Coarse feed sawing of red oak was examined for its influence on saw performance, lumber yields, and pulping characteristics of the sawdust produced. Bite-per-tooth feed rates of 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 inch were used and saw performance was determined for each rate in terms of thickness variation, board surface roughness, and board edge tear-out. The brief evaluation of these points was based on maximum and minimum thickness measurements and planing to remove sawing marks. (Author)
