THE STABILITY OF FLOWS IN TUBES WITH ELASTIC DISSIPATIVE WALLS,

Abstract

Solutions are obtained for internal flows with elastic dissipative walls into which axially symmetric periodic disturbances are introduced. Asymptotic representations for the complete solutions are obtained for large Reynolds no. small wave propagation speeds and disturbance wave-lengths of the order of the tube diameter. The wall impedance required to maintain a neutral stability condition is found and a range of wave numbers for which the impedance has a positive imaginary part corresponding to a viscous damping characteristic is determined.
