REHABILITATION OF CADET MESS, UNITED STATES COAST GUARD ACADEMY, NEW LONDON, CONN.

Abstract

A food service analysis of the Cadet Mess, U. S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., was conducted. On the basis of this survey and special requirements, arrangement plans, equipment lists, and specifications for rehabilitation of the existing food service system were developed. It was concluded that it is essential in rehabilitation of subsistence operations to have continuous communication among the food service engineer (designer), operating personnel (commissary officer and dietitian), and those responsible for construction and funding. The rehabilitation studies required greater effort to obtain an efficient operation than did new construction. Compromises were made from the theoretical optimum to utilize existing utilities, equipment, and building structural features. The rehabilitation of the Cadet Mess, U. S. Coast Guard Academy, was a complete success. It was accomplished as planned and is now operating efficiently. (Author)
