A 22-METER PARABOLIC REFLECTOR RADIO TELESCOPE FOR THE INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS, ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, USSR,

Abstract

Design data is given for a movable radio telescope with a 22-m parabolic reflector, which, on an 8 mm wave and a 3 db level, has a needle-shaped directional pattern of no more than 2 minutes of arc. A method is described for obtaining an accurate and sufficiently rigid reflecting surface assuring high resolution. A system of electric drives for the radio telescope allows a fast change in the orientation of the dish (with a speed up to 20 deg. per min) as well as comparatively slow motions, which are required when tracking astronomical sources of radio emission.
