CORROSIVITY OF CUSHIONING MATERIALS,

Abstract

Representative cushioning and packaging materials were tested to determine the relationship, if any, between physical and chemical test results and compatibility of cushioning materials and packaged metal items. It was determined that chemical properties of packaging materials such as pH and acid or alkaline content, and electrolyte content, are unreliable indicators of cushioning material corrosivity. A stack type compatibility test that will indicate cushioning material corrosivity was developed. (Author)
