TECHNICAL OPERATING AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL: PIER TO SHIP CONVEYOR.

Abstract

The manual provides general operating and maintenance instructions for a materials handling conveyor used for the transfer of materials between pier and ship. The conveyor is a portable, electric motor-driven unit of steel truss frame construction, carrying members of aluminum slats attached to conveyor roller chains, which operate on angle tracks. The conveyor is designed to handle a continuous flow of cargo in either direction between the pier and a weather deck of submarine tenders. It is also capable of handling a Guidance Capsule Container on a one-at-a-time basis. It consists primarily of a 70' long rigid conveyor connected at the pier end on a dolly and attached to a turntable mounted on the weather deck of the tender. Also mounted to the top of the conveyor is a tilting loader/unloader. In addition, a separable mobile dolly has been provided to permit movement of the capsule to strike-down points aboard ship after removal from the conveyor.
